Visualising changes in global wages

Using data from the guardian data store which was originally sourced from the global wage report produced by the ILO it is easy to see that countries were not affected equally by the ‘global’ recession.

Even among the ‘Advanced Countries’, it was surprising to see that only six of the 28 countries listed saw an average decrease in wages during this period.  Iceland bearing the brunt of these losses.

Many countries have seen spectacular increases in wage over the last five years, take a look at China, Albania, Romania and many of their Central and Eastern neighbours.

Here in the UK, our averages wages have increased around 1% per year since 2005.
